REVIEW: Givenchy Nightingale

Ashley Olsen via
If MK Olsen's favorite bag is the Rocco bag, Ashley's is definitely Givenchy Nightingale. Hers is large sized with basic leather finishing. Nightingale bag is easy/modern bag easily recognizable: simplicity of a timeless bag. The bag is named after Florence Nightingale, who came to prominence for her pioneering work in nursing during Crimean war. (source)

"The Nightingale features two handles along with a detachable shoulder strap so that you can alternate between carrying or better yet, showcasing the bag in your hands or wearing it on your shoulder. The bag generally comes in bucket shape but it can be purchased in other shapes. The Nightingale also comes in various colors and exotic skins. It carries the signature Givenchy monogram on the handles that lets the buyer know that they have purchased a truly special piece. This handbag is undoubtedly a statement piece. It can transition from summer into fall easily and looks great with any outfit because of its versatility. It has minimal details that provide a simple yet amazing structure. It is a perennial favorite of a lot of discerning fashionistas and style mavens because of how stylish the bag is, yet it still remains a timeless classic. You will be able to pair this bag with any outfit in your wardrobe. No matter if it is for a casual shopping trip or a nice dinner out, the Nightingale is the perfect accessory. This is a bag that, with the proper care, you are sure to have for years and years. " - The Handbag Concept

Honestly this IT bag has never ever crossed my mind so I was a bit sceptical when I was presented the bag, I mean I know which bag it is but I have never considered the Nightingale for myself. It's the kind of bag that the more you see it, the more you like it. As BagaholicBoy said it, for the same reasons some love it, others hate it, citing the exact same reason. Which is usually its unusual bulbous shape which frankly take some getting used too. The shape is quite peculiar in my opinion, but the bag is so so light that makes it the perfect everyday bag to knock around in. You can glam it up or dress it down, no matter what you will always look chic wearing it!

Types of leather and characteristics:
CALF: has buttery soft  texture, smooth, lightweight , not prone to scratches and slightly sheen
LAMB: prone to scratches, soft, smooth, matte, most lightweight among all type of nightingale bags
PATENT: soft, shiny , flexible and made from hard leather
SHEEP: can be matte and can be sheen, lightweight and not prone to scratches, textured leather
BUFFALO: smooth, heavier, with natural wringkling
GOAT: comes from a smooth leather but  not as smooth as the lamb, matte finish and sturdy, don't show scratches despite being bumped.
Also comes in CANVAS type and PHYTON (exotic)

Also as an added note I also learned that Calfskin Nightingale has the metal hardware on the handles while Lambskin Nightingale has the GG logo. (source)

PRICE:
Depending on color & leather the price at GORGEOUSBYSHASHAARI ranges from RM4500 - RM6000. As for the local GIVENCHY boutique at Pavillion, the price starts from RM6200 for the medium size and differs depending on color & leather type as well.

Check out how the Medium Nightingale fairs on me:
This was from the one that I appeared in a local tv show Bella NTV7 to talk about leukaemia, more pics here.

What I wore to Media Prima to discuss my segment in a new tv show at 8TV debuting next year! Ah well just one small episode :) Details: Polkadot Scarf gifted by dear friend Natasha Hudson from her line DREAMCLOUD / Rosette Cardi from Such by S available at LanaStore.net / Appetime watch / Levi's Boot Cut jeans / Calaman wedges

Random day out with Naz, details: Jubah Souq scarf / The PopLook maxi dress / Vabene shades

As you can see it is quite large and I just spill everything in it! Let's check the insides shall we?
As a demo, I even inserted in a postal parcel in large size which contains two lovely maxi dresses which just arrived for me. Also, an iPad2, a thick Elle magazine, a notebook, Oroton coin pouch, Juicy Couture perfume, shades & my iPhone. Yeah, a loooooooooot of items! It can even work as a mini weekender bag if you're planning to get away for a day ;)

VERDICT:
If at first I won't even give it a second look, now it's totally growing on me. Love the large spacious compartment and the fact that it's super light to begin with is such a plus point for myself. However the long straps don't really works for me, I mean the bag falls down awkwardly to the side, perhaps I need to learn a better way to wear it - just saw a video of someone folding the top side when wearing the long strap so that it doesn't look awkward. Must take note on that. Otherwise, the bag is quite lovely and the straps are softly padded hence it's quite comfortable to carry on.

Hmm, what do you think of the Nightingale? And how about these cool printed versions of it huh? Just way too awesome right....

And guess which one wins my heart? ♥
